Doulas of Chicago is offering limited labor and postpartum service at this time because of COVID-19, including some virtual doula services.
As professionals who regularly work with immunocompromised populations, we are well aware that the current global struggles with COVID-19 are not to be taken lightly. As doulas, we work with pregnant, and newly postpartum families, and we take your health and safety very seriously. Our care team is actively communicating regularly about best practices and updated suggestions from both the CDC and local government. Currently, we are still working with families for labor support and postpartum support. We offer private one-on-one childbirth education classes, and for those interested, virtual childbirth classes through zoom video conferencing.
Here are some specific instructions our doulas follow:

One additional precaution is that our doulas are working with fewer families simultaneously. This has greatly reduced the amount of care we can offer. However, we take your trust very seriously and will continue to enhance your birth and postpartum experiences with our professional and nuanced care in the safest way possible.
I hope this is helpful and I'd love to talk more about how we may be able to help. To see we have availability for your care needs, please reach out through our contact page.
Sincerely,
Ariel Swift

Here are some specific instructions our doulas follow:
- When arriving at hospitals or homes, wash your hands with soap for at least 20 seconds, and dry thoroughly.
- When handwashing is not available, use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content.
- If possible, cough and sneeze into a tissue and throw it away. The next best thing is using your elbow. If you cough and sneeze into your hands, wash your hands immediately.
- If possible, remove the outermost layer of clothing when you arrive at a client's home - such as a jacket and shoes.
- Do not work with clients if ill. If you have had a temperature, you need to be in a normal range for 24-hours before working with clients again. When in doubt, call off.
- Limit your own day-to-day activities that can increase your risk of exposure.
- Information about COVID-19 has been shared in a different light depending on who you get your information from. However, what we know is that it is spread easily through air and vapor, and can be spread on surfaces.
- Face masks are worn at each family's discretion.
- Gloves can be worn at anytime if you feel they would be helpful, but they should not be used to replace hand washing, and proper glove use technique should be used.

- Some additional tasks we are happy to do for clients at a postpartum shift: using Clorox wipes or Lysol spray and wipe off handles, knobs, and commonly used surfaces around the house. *Vinegar is NOT an acceptable alternative for killing these germs.
